Methodology
This page explains where our information comes from and how our tools work, so you can judge for yourself how much weight to give what you read here.
What this site is
promtinsurance.com is an independent publisher. We are not an insurer, an agency or a broker. We do not sell policies, generate leads, or receive commission from any insurance company. Our revenue comes from display advertising.
Where our information comes from
- Policy language and coverage definitions from standard industry forms
- State insurance department rules, which differ significantly by state
- Public filings and consumer data published by the NAIC
- Federal programme documentation, such as NFIP and Medicare
Where we publish figures, we date them. Insurance rates and state rules change every year, and a number without a date is not useful.
How our calculators work
Every calculator applies a standard formula to figures you enter. Nothing you type is transmitted or stored — the arithmetic happens in your browser.
We deliberately do not offer premium calculators that predict what an insurer will charge you. Those require each company's private rate tables, so any site producing them is guessing. We would rather offer fewer tools that compute something real.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Substantive corrections are noted on the page with the date changed.
What we cannot do
We cannot tell you what to buy. Coverage decisions depend on your assets, your state, your health and your risk tolerance, and only a licensed agent who knows your situation can advise on them. Everything here is general information.
